Put on your walking shoes and history hats!: We are well on our way with walking to the Revolutionary War battle sites in the 13 original colonies. We began at Roanoke Island. NC, and have walked to other sites in NC, SC, and are trekking toward GA. Please take time to read the bulletin inserts each week that describe the battlefields and the importance of the battles in the war. Our goal is to be where it all began, in Philadelphia, PA by July 4th, and celebrate the 250th birthday of our nation and freedom from British rule. A map of the battle sites is posted by the side entrance door in the breezeway for you to follow our walk and see other battle site locations. Please submit your steps weekly to fpcogwellness@gmail.com so we can show steady progress in our walk. If you have trouble with the wellness website, you can submit your steps to Martha Long at seventy7tiger@gmail.com or 919-744-0751. Be on the lookout for a birthday party celebration after we finish our walk. Details will be coming later.
H.O.P.E.: FPCoG 5th Saturday Commitment – May 30 Serving Our Neighbors at H.O.P.E., and they are depending on us. As always, we know that FPCoG will be there for them. For those who may not be familiar with our 5th Saturday Commitment, this ministry involves providing the meal, serving, cleaning up, and doing laundry from the shower area. Since 2000, FPCoG has faithfully committed to serving on every 5th Saturday at H.O.P.E., located at Garner Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive (near Papa John’s on Vandora Springs Avenue). What We Provide / Need / Responsible for… Lunch for approximately 100 hungry guests; Volunteers to serve (extra hands are especially needed!); Clean Kitchen & Fellowship Hall – clean tables, breakdown tables/chairs, vacuum; Assistance with laundry from the showers (we provide the supplies/laundry card – complete; & return laundry to GUMC after finished). In addition to the sign‑up sheet in the Narthex (near the hallway to the classrooms), we are excited to introduce an electronic sign‑up option this time. Many thanks to Christy Turpin for her efforts in making this possible! 📌 SignUpGenius Link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D45A4AA29A2FF2-61729052-hope
ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND PROGRAM ABOUT READ AND FEED: Please come join us in the Fellowship Hall for an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 28th at 3pm. We will have delicious ice cream, toppings, cookies, and a special speaker provided by the Missions Ministry on Read and Feed. Our speaker will be Sherry Shudra, Executive Director of Read and Feed. It is a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen literacy skills among underserved elementary school children and provide meals in a nurturing neighborhood environment. Reed and Feed partners with Wake County schools to identify children who are at risk and below reading level. During each session, each child receives a nourishing, well-balanced meal, most of which comes from the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, spends 75 minutes with a tutor working on their reading skills, and picks out 3 books to take home to build a personal library. You are all invited to join us for some yummy ice cream and learn more about how our church can become involved in the Read and Feed program. If you have questions about the event, contact Donna Gould or Kathy Blue.
