Sunday Services

Sunday School Classes

Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 am for people of all ages. Adults have two options for Christian education during this time:

  • Ogburn classroom
  • New Beginnings classroom

Check out this month’s newsletter, The Spire, for information on the current subject and curriculum used for each of these classes.

Children and youth classes are designed and designated by age. Please check out the church’s floorplan for your child’s class location on the bottom floor layout.

The nursery is available for infants and toddlers during all services and sessions.

Worship Service

On Sunday morning we have one worship service, which begins at 11:00 am.  We celebrate the Lord’s Supper (also known as Communion)  on the first Sunday of each month and during other special services. All are welcome to participate in this practice.

The worship style leans towards traditional though we do have calls and responses, corporate prayers, and faith statements that allow the congregation to actively participate. The order follows the PCUSA Book of Common Worship.

Dress attire varies from person to person. You’ll see blue jeans, dress pants, skirts, dresses, coats and ties, and Golf shirts each week. Whether you dress a little more formally or informally, you are welcome.

Early during each service, we present a “Conversation with the Young and Young at Heart” focused on preschool and early elementary school children, but meant for all ages.  After that conversation, these children have the opportunity to go to “Children’s Church”  for the remainder of the worship service.  We also provide a nursery for children who are too young to attend church for even a short period of time. Please call the church ahead of time if you might need the nursery.

During the service, we greet each other to express our community of Christian love.  We shake each other’s hand – or hug each other, in some cases – and greet each other with “The Lord be with You,” “Peace be With You” and other appropriate salutations.

Prayer is at the heart of worship.  We respond to God in adoration, in confession, in thanksgiving, in supplication, and in self-dedication.  Music has an important role in our worship because singing engages the whole self in prayer.

Another vital component of our worship is reading and proclaiming the Scriptures. Scripture witnesses to God’s self-revelation. We invite you to visit us on Sunday, to join us in learning, worshiping, and serving God.

Not able to attend in person? Join us online at 11:00 am via Facebook live for worship! Online participation via Facebook Live: https://www.facebook.com/firstpresbyterianchurchofgarner
