During worship in July, we observe a FPCoG tradition: “This is Our Story”. During the month, our hymns and scriptures are drawn from “favorites” shared by members of the congregation!
Announcements
Youth Mission Trip: Support the Youth Mission trip by participating in the “Envelope Encouragement” Fundraiser. 1) Take an envelope (as many as you want!). You can also grab an envelope for someone else! 2) Return the envelope to the church office ASAP with a donation of up to (or more) the amount indicated on the envelope. The donations will help fund snacks, gas, a portion of registration costs, and help us replenish youth funds for future conferences and ministry with our children and young people. Please share any questions about this fundraiser with Rev. Acton. Thanks be to God for everyone’s support!
Volunteers Needed:
Faith Formation is looking to add to its team of volunteers on Sunday morning for both the Children’s Church and the nursery. Volunteers would become part of a pool of leaders who would rotate weeks in serving these ministries. A background check and brief training is required as per the church’s Safe Sanctuary Policy. Anyone who is interested can speak to Elder Roxann Porter, Helen Stephens, or Reverend Acton.
As summer is in full swing, the church is in need of a few more ushers and greeters for July and August. Here are the current open spots: 1 usher for 8/24 and 8/31; 1 greeter for 8/17 and 8/31. Contact Donna Gould if you are interested in helping on one of these days.
Care Packages: Do you have a student or immediate family member in the military who would appreciate a little boost? FPCoG would like to offer your family member(s) a little “treat bag” (chips, candy, etc.) so they know that FPCoG is thinking of them and praying for them. Request forms can be found in the narthex or church office and MUST be returned to Stephanie or Melissa Miley by July 20th to be fulfilled and ready for you to pick up. Your student or military person’s gift bag will be available to pick up at the church by August 3rd.
Walk Around the World: WOW – our feet were made for walking, and we are walking around the world! Thank you to everyone who submits steps to our virtual walk. We continue to push forward and have walked 2,428,504 steps or about 1.214 miles from Mumbai to Beijing. Since we began this walk on March 1, we have walked 25,213,981 steps, or 12,605 miles. HOORAY!!!! If anyone has questions about sending steps to FPCOGWellness@gmail.com, or using the chart for equivalent steps, contact Martha Long at 919-744-0751, or seventy7tiger@gmail.com.
August Spire articles are due by July 20th.
Garner Area Ministries: Suggested “Item of the Month” is Breakfast items (cereal, protein bars, fruit bars). The following items are often in short supply at the GAM Food Pantry: Cereal, Peanut Butter, Grape or Strawberry Jam, Boxed Pasta, Canned Pasta, Boxed Macaroni & Cheese, Tomato Sauce, Diced Tomatoes, Canned Corn/Peas/Green Beans, Tomato/Chicken Noodle Soup, Saltines, Pork & Beans, Canned Beans, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Rice/Rice Mixes, Canned Meat/Fish, Hamburger Helper, Canned Fruit, Bottled Water, Toilet Paper. All donations are appreciated!
Green Chair Project: At Faith Fest will we be kicking off a new way to help in our community. The Green Chair project “provides essential resources to individuals overcoming homelessness, crisis, or disaster, whose fresh start in stable housing is stalled by a lack of resources to make their house a home. Together, we’re working toward a future where every child has a bed and every home is stocked with essentials.” FPCoG will begin collecting pillows and twin sheets to help in this mission. After Faith Fest you will see donation bins around the church to continue supporting this mission.
Able to Serve: Able to Serve will be holding their Bible Camp in July and First Presbyterian Church of Garner has once again agreed to serve lunch for them (tacos!) on Wednesday, July 30th. For more information or if you would like to help with the Wednesday luncheon, contact Lucy Paradies or Henry Woodcock.
