In June, our worship will focus on the first half of the book of Acts. From Jesus’ Ascension to the perseverance of the Good News, from Paul’s conversion to the pronouncement at the Council of Jerusalem, we will learn what it means to be “Witnesses” to the radical hospitality, love, and wisdom of Jesus Christ. In the process, we will also see how the church’s early years still have something to teach us about the church of today.
Announcements
Garner Area Ministries Show-and-Tell: Garner Area Ministries is hosting a show-and-tell for FPCoG folks who want to see how things are done at GAM. It will be at 10 am on Saturday, June 28th, and should last less than an hour. Those interested in carpooling should meet in the church parking lot by 9:45am. We’ll walk you through the operations of the assistance office and the food pantry. We appreciate all that FPCoG does!
Youth Mission Trip: Support the Youth Mission trip by participating in the “Envelope Encouragement” Fundraiser. 1) Take an envelope (as many as you want!). You can also grab an envelope for someone else! 2) Return the envelope to the church office by July 10 with a donation of up to (or more) the amount indicated on the envelope. The donations will help fund snacks, gas, a portion of registration costs, and help us replenish youth funds for future conferences and ministry with our children and young people. Please share any questions about this fundraiser with Rev. Acton. Thanks be to God for everyone’s support!
Volunteers Needed:
Faith Formation is looking to add to its team of volunteers on Sunday morning for both the Children’s Church and the nursery. Volunteers would become part of a pool of leaders who would rotate weeks in serving these ministries. A background check and brief training is required as per the church’s Safe Sanctuary Policy. Anyone who is interested can speak to Elder Roxann Porter, Helen Stephens, or Reverend Acton.
As summer is in full swing, the church is in need of a few more ushers and greeters for July and August. Here are the current open spots: 1 usher for 7/6, 8/3, and 8/31; 2 ushers for 8/24; 1 greeter for 8/17, 8/24, and 8/31. Contact Donna Gould if you are interested in helping on one of these days.
Care Packages: Do you have a student or immediate family member in the military who would appreciate a little boost? FPCoG would like to offer your family member(s) a little “treat bag” (chips, candy, etc.) so they know that FPCoG is thinking of them and praying for them. Request forms can be found in the narthex or church office and MUST be returned to Stephanie or Melissa Miley by July 20th to be fulfilled and ready for you to pick up. Your student or military person’s gift bag will be available to pick up at the church by August 3rd.
WE DID IT!! We have walked from Moscow to Mumbai in 7 weeks! That is super, wonderful, fabulous, and magnificent!!! We needed to walk 8,622,000 steps or 4,311 miles from Moscow to get to Mumbai. We have walked 9,125,198 steps, or 4,562 miles, and have walked through Mumbai and are on our way to Beijing, China. Throughout our virtual walk, we arrived at each destination about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. We have allotted 8 weeks to walk from Mumbai to Beijing, so our goal is to be in Beijing by August 24. This walk will take us through the heat of the summer, so be mindful of staying hydrated. When it is too hot to walk, please remember to use the conversion chart for cool activities such as swimming to calculate your equivalent steps. This walk shows your determination and commitment to focus on your spiritual, emotional, and physical wellness. THANK YOU!!!! If you have questions or problems submitting your steps to fpcogwellness@gmail.com , contact Martha Long at 919-744-0751, or seventy7tiger@gmail.com.
The church office will be closed July 3rd – 4th. In an emergency, both Rev. Acton and Stephanie can be reached by cell.
