The Good News: Announcements and Reminders, June 5, 2025
Upcoming Worship Services
Celebrate Pentecost! When you come to worship on Sunday, June 8, consider wearing something red. Red is traditionally a color associated with the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is a celebration of the Spirit’s power, which gave birth to the church as recorded in Acts 2. Don’t have anything red? Don’t worry! All are welcome to worship at First Presbyterian Church of Garner, no labels, no exceptions.
Announcements
- Honoring the class of 2025: If you have a family member graduating this spring from high school, college, or grad school, please let us know. Send the graduate’s name, school, and program of study, and any other information you feel is important, along with a picture, to the office. Please send in your information as soon as possible.
- Youth Mission Trip: Support the Youth Mission trip by participating in the “Envelope Encouragement” Fundraiser. 1) Take an envelope (as many as you want!). You can also grab an envelope for someone else! 2) Return the envelope to the church office by July 10 with a donation of up to (or more) the amount indicated on the envelope. The donations will help fund snacks, gas, a portion of registration costs, and help us replenish youth funds for future conferences and ministry with our children and young people. Please share any questions about this fundraiser with Rev. Acton. Thanks be to God for everyone’s support!
- Walk Around the World: Keep those walking shoes moving! We are making steady progress to Mumbai, as we are 40% of the way there. We have walked 3,607,290 steps or 1,804 miles from Moscow. We have had some rainy weather that reduces our opportunity to walk outside. But remember to use the step conversion chart and record steps for everyday activities you can do when it rains. Thank you for taking steps to improve your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
- Ida Joy Bible Study: Please join us on June 10th at 10am in the Ogburn classroom, where we will be studying Huldah. The women truly have a beautiful tapestry to share, and it is exciting to see how we can apply this to our everyday walk with God. It is a wonderful time spent together as Christian women as we discover these women and ourselves! All you have to do is sit back and listen as Regina Alexander or Cheryle Prater lead you in this very special study!
- Game Day: Join the Wellness Committee for Game Day on June 21st from 2 to 4. We’ll have a variety of board and card games, or bring one you want to find players for! Chips, popcorn and soft drinks will be provided to keep your energy going.
- Garner Area Ministries Show-and-Tell: Garner Area Ministries is hosting a show-and-tell for FPCoG folks who want to see how things are done at GAM. It will be at 10 am on Saturday, June 28th, and should last less than an hour. We’ll walk you through the operations of the assistance office and the food pantry. We appreciate all that FPCoG does!
- Exciting Update from Itiyah Murphy!!: “I want to share some exciting news about a new chapter in my ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship! I’ve accepted a new part-time temp, remote position as an Administrative Assistant for InterVarsity’s Central Region. In this role, I’ll be providing support to the Central Region’s Undergraduate Ministries. This includes tasks related to the upcoming 2026 Urbana Missions Conference (urbana.org). Essentially, I’ll be helping to ensure a smooth process and registration for IV staff and students as they begin to recruit and prepare for Urbana. Though my main focus will be Urbana I will support the region with their regional conference (Fall Conference) and other operations that are vital in reaching students across the Central Region. This new role will allow me to continue serving InterVarsity in a meaningful way while also continuing to serve Internationally as the Lord leads. I’m truly looking forward to this next step and the opportunity to contribute to the mission in a new capacity. While my InterVarsity budget for this part-time role will be less than my previous full-time role, I will simultaneously continue serving as a missionary in SE Asia. More details about this will be coming soon. I will still need your vital support for my overall ministry budgets. I’ll be reaching out to each of you individually before my current position ends on June 30th to discuss how you can continue to partner with me. Thank you so much for your continued partnership and generous support. Your commitment makes a significant difference in the lives of students around the world!”
- Garner Area Ministries (GAM): The focus item for this month is canned vegetables. Donations can be dropped off at the church. There are baskets in the narthex as well as the lower level hallway to the left of the breezeway. Donations can also be dropped off directly at GAM (558 Village Court, Garner) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am – 12noon. Thank you for your generosity!
